We are reviewing ABC order and alphabetizing Thanksgiving words to practice. In writing, we have been writing how to cook a Thanksgiving turkey. It is really funny to read how some of us think you should cook a turkey. In math, we are working on gathering data and creating graphs. In reading, we are reading Thanksgiving stories and working on our comprehension and antonyms. Make sure to practice your reader’s theater tonight so that we can film it tomorrow.

Today we went to the nature center. We got to get rocks. There were lots of bees there. Mrs. Vanbrocklin’s class came too. Mrs Saccoccio read us chapter 1 of Happy ‘Fangs’giving. – By Ainsley
Today we worked on revising and editing. We read a letter written by Fly in Diary of a Fly and corrected his mistakes. We also added a journal entry to our journals. In math, we did Turkey math to practice our math facts. This afternoon we read Sylvester and the Magic Pebble. We found our own magic pebble in the Nature Center and wrote a story about it. Today, we continued working on journal writing. We created a cover to go with our journals. In math, we learned about adding 3 two-digit numbers. We will have our Chapter 5 Math Test this week. In reading, we read Diary of a Fly. We also we to the WHO program. We learned about safe touches.

Today, we wrote our new spelling words in our planners. The new words are: its, who, now, people, and my. We also talked about hard and soft C’s. In writing, we learned about writing in journals and started our own journal. In math, we reviewed two-digit addition. We will have a test this week on adding with regrouping. In reading, we are still reading Doreen Cronin books. Today, we read Diary of a Worm and practiced a reader’s theater.

In writing, we are reviewing writing how-to essays. Today, we wrote a how-to essay on making a ham and cheese sandwich. We started with planning and then wrote then story together. We then brainstormed several ideas that the students could write a how-to about. Then they began their own stories. In math, we have begun adding with regrouping. Make sure you are practicing your math facts at home. In reading, we began an author study of Doreen Cronin. Yesterday, we read Click, Clack Moo and discussed sequencing. Today, we read Giggle, Giggle, Quack and continued discussing sequencing. We also began a unit on the states of matter which are solids, liquids, and gases.

Today we worked on ways to make the long O sound in words. Students completed an interactive activity on the Mimio to practice this skill. We also reviewed antonyms. In math, we began working on adding with regrouping. Everyone needs to make sure that they know their addition facts since that will make adding with regrouping much easier. You can go to my website to play math games to practice these facts in a fun way. Also, today was ‘Twinkie’ Day for red ribbon week. We had several ‘Twinkies’ running around second grade. Tomorrow is wear a hat/cap day so may sure you come with your hats.
