WOW!!! This week has flown. Today we read Vunce Upon a Time and discussed character traits. We then carved a pumpkin as a class and wrote a how to paper on how to carve a pumpkin. While we were carving the pumpkin we estimated how many seeds were in the pumpkin and Katelyn won for getting closet to the actual amount which was 426 seeds. We completed our daily math review. We also read Twas the Night Before Halloween with the lights off and our new jack-o-lantern lit. It was a lot of fun. We also discussed Halloween safety tips. …a glimpse of your 2nd grader's day!
We don’t celebrate Halloween in Australia. A few people have parties and dress up but it’s not a big event here. This week is Melbourne Cup week. Melbourne Cup is a famous horse race. In Victoria everyone gets the day off work and school. We all dress up in our best clothes and celebrate with a BBQ or party. Many people spend some of the week at the race track. Today the actual Melbourne Cup race will be run so we are all trying to guess who the winner will be.
